The production of POM and TPU through reactive extrusion is the industrial process by which polymeric materials are synthesized starting from their respective monomers.
Our extruders – which act as real reactors – are specialized in the synthesis of POM (Polyoxymethylene) and TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane).
Reactive extrusion is an important field of application of co-rotating twin-screw extruders:
The extrusion of POM allows the synthesis of polyoxymethylene, with a yield of 80-87%, starting from the monomers (trioxane-dioxolane) and degassing the unreacted monomer through a second extruder.
The extrusion of TPU occurs starting from constituent monomers with the aid of catalysts. The synthesis reaction occurs along the appropriately configured extruder and the polyurethane exiting the die is then granulated.
The intrinsic flexibility of the extruder allows us to offer tailor-made solutions, while the high know-how gained in the research and sale of production plants ensures advanced and highly configurable processes to meet customer needs.
The polymer synthesis processes are continuous and – through the use of gravimetric feeders – can grant continuity and production consistency.
